Our Music Director
David Chavez is from Albuquerque, NM where he studied at the University of New Mexico (UNM), earning degrees in performance and music education. He also earned his Master of Music from Rice University in Houston, TX in performance and from UNM in conducting. He played as a violist for several groups, such as the New Mexico Philharmonic, NMSO, Santa Fe Symphony, Performance Santa Fe, the New Mexico Ballet, Santa Fe Opera, Chatter, and The Figueroa Project.
While at UNM he organized and conducted a series of concerts which featured two of Albuquerque's high-profile violinists, David Felberg, who performed Dmitry Shostakovich violin concerto, and Carmelo do Los Santos, who performed Mendelssohn's violin concerto.
Chavez also worked for the Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) as a guest conductor and as an assistant conductor where he helped prepare the APO for several guest conductors.
In 2015, Chavez was appointed Music Director to the Los Alamos Symphony and is in his third season with the orchestra.
